BRIEF DESCRIPTION
We are pursuing two novel approaches to generate brush written characters in this project:
In the first approach, we analysed the fractal properties of different style of calligraphic writings. Based on this analysis, we develop techniques to generate (synthesize) details that correspond to the fractal dimensions of the specific style of calligraphic writing. With this approach, we are able to synthesize characters with brush written effects from their true-type fonts.
In the second approach, we develop a physically-based brush model for synthesizing calligraphic writings. The resulting brush model is able to capture the physical effects of the writing process due to brush geometry, brush orientations and motions, ink absorption and depositing by the brush hairs. We have shown that our physically-based brush model is able to generate all the aesthetic effects commonly attributed to Chinese calligraphy.
