BRIEF DESCRIPTION
In this project, we successsfully develop a novel scalable (outline) font representation based on fractal functions. The resulting fonts are compact and can support efficient regeneration. Our fractal representation allows the font characters to be regenerated in any scale and at the same time retain the aesthetic characteristics of brush written characters. This technique is particularly suitable for the encoding of oriental calligraphic characters.
In addition, we have extended the fractal encoding to compactly represent an entire piece ofcalligraphic manuscript as oppose to a single character < "Automatic Synthesis of Fractal Details for Calligraphic Writings">.
In related work, we have also successfully developed techniques for the scalable representation of grey-scale calligraphic (brush-written) characters as well as manuscript. For this work, we exploit the properties of "multi-resolutions coherence", ie. coherent properties that are inherent in multi-resolutions representation of grey scale image. Furthermore, we have developed a physically-based brush model for synthesizing calligraphic writings. The resulting brush model is able to capture the physical effects of the writing process due to brush geometry, brush orientations and motions, ink absorption and depositing by the brush hairs. We have shown that our physically-based brush model is able to generate all the aesthetic effects commonly attributed to Chinese calligraphy. <A Structural-Fractal Representation for Chinese Scalable Fonts>.
